Forged Blanks
Before life of a wheel starts, we begin with a forged aluminum blank, created under the immense heat and pressure of a 10,000 ton press. This aligns grain structure and increase yield and ultimate tensile strength.
-
Advanced FMEA
Each design and product we create is subject to Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). This allows us to predict any possible failures while our wheels are taking abuse from city pot holes or high G force cornering.
-
Complete Machining
From mill, to lathe to CNC machining, we are able to make a wheel exactly how it is envisioned. Creating many classic favourites and one-of-a-kind specifications to match your build to laser precision.
Wheel Options
Bead Knurling
Bead seat knurling is the process where grooves are pressed into the bead seat of a wheel rim to improve tire grip and reduce slippage.
3 options for bead knurling:
- blank/plain
- “STREET” knurling (painted)
- “RACE” knurling (unpainted)
Paint Options
Wheels are able to be completed in one solid colour, barrel and face different colours, word colour fill, machine cut and polish face or lip. Our wheels are finished with minimum 300 microns to ensure a reliable finish throughout all conditions.
Center Caps
Unlike some companies, all our wheels come standard with billet aluminum center caps. The Canadian flag is always colour filled red unless otherwise stated. There are 3 center cap designs.
- Default logo
- Alternate logo 1
- 3-piece floating center caps
About us
We specialize in offering high-quality wheels for Canadian and international vehicles alike. Optimized for style, and perfected for preformance.
More Information
Why Forged?
Cast wheels are usually on the everyday vehicle, the “grocery getter”. They are cheap to manufacture after the cast is set up. They are usually made of A356 aluminum, heated to 560 – 610 °C before poured into a mold. Once cooled, they are machined to the final appearance. Cast wheels are cost effective but that’s it. In regards to performance they are heavier and provide low strength due to unaligned crystal structures.
Flow formed wheels or sometimes called “hybrid forged”, “rotary forged” or “semi-forged” starts out like a cast wheel. However the barrel is poured at approximately twice the thickness but half the length. It is then set up on a drum and heated while rollers push and stretch the aluminum to near final shape. Machining processes follow afterward.
Forged wheels are for enthusiasts who want the absolute most out of their wheels. 6061 aluminum is poured into a mold and pressed at 10,000 tons of force to compress the aluminum into a blank. The “T6” portion refers to the engineered cooldown process to give the now aligned crystal structure its strength. This is usually completed by quenching, which rapidly cools the blank by submersion in a water bath.
Why us?
Northern Forged understands the wants and needs of our clients and aims for 100% customer satisfaction. How do we achieve this? Through our engineering—backed by over 13 combined years of experience. Quality control - reviewing runout and film build paint thickness. Finally, our passion - wheel designs you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else.
Quality
Before each set is shipped out, they are checked for visual and hidden defects. All our wheels are meticulously checked for runout. Simply put, how actually round or straight the wheel is. Industry standard is set at 0.51mm of variance. We achieve 0.20mm or lower, far surpassing all industry standards.
Customized Bespoke Options
Have a design in your head that you want to bring to life? Or maybe an OEM design that you want forged? We do that too. Many of our designs have been completed by us, starting from just a chicken-scratch sketch. After many CAD models, simulations and scaled machining, we can bring your wheel designs to life.
